Woodworking Workshops Woodworking here at Lit Only By Fire is done using the same methods and techniques used by civilizations long before the discovery of electricity. Our school and craftsmen provide you with the knowledge and techniques to build literally anything using a bare minimum of equipment, none of which requires power, only a good sharp edge and the will to learn.
Current Workshop Offerings The Wooden Spoon (Beginner level) - $45 July 28: 8:30am - 4:00pm This is a one day class that, while it may seem silly to just make a soon, teaches the fundamentals of hand tool wordworking. Students will learn about the various chisels, gouges, planes and scrapers ,as well as how to sharpen tools. What makes this class excellent for beginners is that it is not only practical, but a lot of fun. The Shaker Table (Intermediate level) - $400 August 6-8, 13-15, 20-22 & 27-29 : 5:30pm - 9:00pm The Shakers were renowned for their simplistic, functional and exceedingly beautiful craftsmanship in wood. Students will work with the instructors over the course of 10 nights to produce a mortise and tenon shaker table. IT is recommended that you have some experience with hand woodworking tools and terminology prior to this class Advanced Woodworking: The Half-Blind Dovetail Drawer (Intermediate - Advanced level) - $1,500 Please call us to see when we can schedule you for this course. Before taking this course, it is recommended that you find space in your home for a beautiful hand crafted oak buffet or coffee table! Students will learn the intricacies of what makes a quality table, and utilize all of the skills in their arsenal to build a hardwood table with half-blind dovetail drawers inset. This course is offered one day a week for a whole year in the evenings.
